Pantone 2016 Colours of the Year Inspiration For Bag Makers

Hi Everyone!

Pantone just announced its 2016 Colours of the Year, and it's the first time ever that there are two: Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue!   Since this announcement,  I have seen a lot of people are not really happy with the Pantone colours for 2016 on social media. I however am really happy with them - Pink and Blue are some of my favourite colours and colour combinations! I want you all to see the positive side of these colours too...so I'm going to share some bag inspiration with you all, and I hope by the end of this post, you are loving these colours just like me :)

So what is all the fuss about?  These are the colours, they are named "Rose Quartz" and "Serenity Blue"...

What do you think of them?  Are you on the fence?  Not for much longer...have a look at these!

Obviously this bag is not handmade, I mean it's a "Valentino" ;) but I think you could make a great handmade version of this bag using this Chris W Designs pattern that would help you replicate this fabulously pretty bag!

Look at these beautiful vintage style bags that I found, to me they look just like Swoon Sewing Patterns 'Donna'*...what do you think?

Now who doesn't love a saddle bag?!  Again, this particular bag isn't handmade...but you could easily make it with I Think Sew's Lacey Bag or Swoon Sewing Patterns 'Sandra'* :)

This beautiful satchel bag is almost a perfect match to Mrs H's Satchel bag pattern, should you want to make one yourself....the similarities are almost uncanny ;)

This is a really pretty one that I found...and with a few small adjustments to Emmaline Bags Totes-ma-tote pattern you could have a similar bag to use when you go out to coffee with your friends ;)

But these bags were all made with leather/vinyl and I prefer to make bags using cottons...never fear my friends!  Here are some great fabrics I have to show you, that will help you make your bags in this years colours :)

Kate Spain's ranges Canyon and Aria are just perfect...see...
(Source

Now if your a Tula Pink lover...the "Sorbet" colours in her "Bumble" fabric range are a perfect match for Rose quartz!

I know some of Tula's ranges are hard to get...but I happen to know Clair's Fabrics has some of this range!  If you are a fan of Tula's other ranges, this print from "Elizabeth" is worth a look as is this print from "Eden"  and this one and this one...they all use Serenity Blue AND Rose quartz too.

Katarina Roccella's Range Skopelos has a couple of great prints that work for Serenity Blue AND Rose quartz...

Have a look at Paparounes PastelKladi under LightGreeka Roz and Ble just to name a few (there are more that work as Serenity Blue and Rose quartz from this range too!)

Now if your not satisfied with these?  Have a look at these prints I've found that work too!

Top row (L-R): 1, 2, 3
Middle Row (L-R): 1, 2, 3
Bottom row (L-R): 1, 2, 3

So did it work?  Are you a convert?  Don't you just love these colours!   I'm really looking forward to seeing how you might incorporate these colours into your bag making in 2016 :)

Now, this will be my last post for the year :(   I know sad right!
...BUT, I have some super exciting news coming for you all in the new year and I have had such trouble keeping the secret from you all, with only a few more weeks to wait  I think I'll be alright now ;D

I hope you all have a great holiday period, happy sewing!

Introducing the Run & Play Bag!

Hi Everyone!

Today I want to introduce you to my new pattern...the Run & Play bag :)

Let me tell you more about this fabulous pattern and its features...

The Run & Play Bag can be made as either:
- A Shoulder Bag, OR
- A Cross-body Bag

If you make the Run & Play Bag as a shoulder bag then you will find that the shoulder strap even has a super fun element on it – a zip!

The finished size of the Run & Play Bag measures approximately 9” tall x 12½” wide x 3” deep (23cm x 32cm x 5cm). These measurements do not include the drop of the Shoulder Strap/Adjustable Strap.

The Run & Play Bag has a unique angular flap, with magnetic snap closure. Inside the bag you will find a small zip pocket.

The Run & Play Bag is a very quick project - it took my testers between 1 and 4.5 hours to complete the bag. That time includes: printing the pattern, cutting the fabric, applying the interfacing and sewing the bag!

Because it is such a quick sew, this pattern would be great to make as gifts for friends, and family during the holiday season! It would also make a great quick sew for teachers gifts at the end of the school year ;)

The Run & Play Bag is classed as a "Beginner - Confident Beginner" level pattern. The only part of the bag construction that moves it in the direction of "Confident Beginner" is the internal zip pocket...so if you are a beginner bag maker who is not confident with zips, you can just leave that out...OR using the great colour photos and instructions included in the pattern you might choose to tackle your 1st zip pocket!

So if this sounds like a pattern that is for you, it can be purchased from my Shop, on Etsy, or on Craftsy right now!

Let's have a look at the wonderful Run & Play Bag's my fabulous testers made...

This is Jacquie from Pebble Lane Studio's Run & Play Bag.
As you can see she chose to make the cross-body version.
In the top right hand picture, you can see her
Necessary Clutch Wallet (Pattern by Emmaline bags), peeking out too :)
I love the fabric she used too!

This is Melisa from Melisa Jane's Run & Play Bag.
Melisa chose to make the shoulder bag version,
and has used a metal zip to make this unique feature really pop!

This is Merja's Run & Play bag.
Merja used some vintage fabric for the flap on her cross-body version
and as you can see she has added some lace too,
this gives the bag a wonderful vintage feel.
Merja had this to say...
"The Run & Play bag is a very well written pattern and it helps you create a lovely bag!"

This is Maria's cross-body version of the Run & Play Bag.
Maria didn't use any medium weight interfacing on the external parts of her bag,
She used a thick corduroy for the outside bag and
a heavyweight upholstery fabric for the flap.
She also chose to use foam stabiliser in her bag...
"I used foam as stabiliser and it worked wonderfully,
even for the flap" - which has given it a lovely shape.

This is Anna's shoulder bag version of the Run & Play Bag.
Anna used glitter vinyl for her bag, and doesnt it look fabulous!
Anna had this to say "It came out awesome...and it came together so easily!
I will definitely make more".

Janet made this lovely cross-body Run and Play Bag.
Janet also had some lovely things she wanted me to pass on to you...
"Oh my gosh! I LOVE the Run and Play bag.
I didn't have any issues or problems when making it,
AND the lining fits perfectly, no baggy bottom!
Also there are some things in the pattern I really liked:
1. The cutting guide - yours is so clear!
2. The hints to mark the darts.
and
3. The explanation of the anatomy of a zipper"

Susie from Twirl Girl Boutique made this very pretty
cross-body version in Cloud 9 Fabrics.
Susie had this to say "the pattern was clear and the photos were great!
I like to pattern test mainly via the pictures...so again, they were perfect!"

This is Magareth's (@maggiemadebags on instagram
Cross-body version of the Run & Play Bag.
Margareth used faux leather on the flap, and doesnt it make the bag look wonderful!

This is Lindsey's Run and Play Bag.
Lindsey made the cross body version, and it was
actually stolen by her young daughters (4yrs and almost 2yrs) numerous times!
So she has a few more that need to be sewn up now ;)
She took the bag out on some errands one day,
and had this to say"it seems to be a good fit. I was able to fit 2 wallets,
4 diapers, a wipes container, my cell phone, and a toy horse in there!"

Don't they look great?!

If you what to make your own Run & Play Bag, you can purchase the pattern from my Shop, on Etsy, or on Craftsy right now!

I hope I see you creating some Run & Play Bags very soon!
Happy Sewing :)
