A true disaster...

Hi everyone,

A few weekends ago I wen to my 1st ever Australian Sewing Guild meeting.  I decided to make a skirt for myself while there, havinf never sewed for myself before I decided the "Isabella banded skirt" looked easy enough :)

So I sewed it up, and I'm sorry to say it was just the wrong shape for me! I was quite disappointed as I loved the fabric so much! (The fabric was from Spotlight).

When I got home, I unpicked it all, found an old a-line skirt (to use for the shape) and an old yoga band from another old unworn skirt...

And created a new skirt - which I love :) so glad I spent the time trying to fix this disaster rather than just chucking it in the bin :)

Have you ever created someting you thought would be wonderful and it turned out to be truly awful?!
Did you fix it or put it in the bin?

Mrs H's Hobo

Hi Everyone

A LONG time ago (in Jan/Feb 2015) I tested Mrs H's latest pattern...her Hobo Bag. I have had to keep it a secret for soooooo long!  Do you know how hard that was?  It was so hard, as I just wanted to shout it from the roof how wonderful this bag really is!

I have used it more than a few times and LOVE it.  Its a great size, big but not huge, so enough space for an outing on my own, or with T...M needs a few more essentials like nappies and changes of clothes etc ;)

My version of this bag is made using some scrappy panels, that are great for clearing out some of the unused scraps that I know we all have!

I made my version with scraps from my "pink" box, and I paired them with a 1/2m Japanese linen that I purchased in a closing down sale, and another 1/2m of a cotton poplin butterfly print I purchased AGES ago at spotlight.  I didn't have quite enough of the butterfly print or the linen for the underside of the shoulder strap (as you can see in the photo above), so I used a scrap from my "blue" box that seemed to be the closest, I could find in there, to the linen.

As the closure hangs quite low on the bag, and you cant really see it in the other photos I have shared, I thought I would share this photo so you can see it more clearly.  I really like the look of it too :)

Inside there are both zip and slip pockets. I have made mine with more scraps from my "pink" scrap box.

This bag is a REALLY good project for using up those scraps and small cuts of fabric if you want too. But the bag doesn't need to be made with patchwork bits....and you can make it reversible if you want too!  This pattern in so versatile - and I highly recommend it :)

Curry in the slow cooker...

Hi everyone :)

As most of you will know...the 1st meal I cooked in my new slow cooker was a true DISASTER...but didn't let that stop me and made Spaghetti and Meatballs and Crockpot Chicken Taco which have both been loved by the whole family!  So, onto todays adventures :)

I made Beef curry
The boys all loved it, however I was not a huge fan...

So here is what I thought about this meal:

Will I cook it again?

Yes, as the kids liked it so that makes it a winner :)

Did the kids eat it?

Yes

What do I score it?

I scored this one 4 yummies out of 5 :)

Did I add or subtract anything from the recipe?

I used Coconut Cream insead of Coconut Milk and I added a whole jar of the curry paste.  I did this as I had more Coconut Cream than the recepie called for.

Would I add or subtract anything from the recipe next time?

I would probably add less of the curry paste mix ;P

What recipes will be coming up soon?
(Not in any order - I just want to make them coz they look yum!)

Hoisin Chicken
Chicken and Spaghetti
Apple Butter

Honey BBQ Chicken Sandwiches
Chicken burrito Bowl
Meatloaf
Corn on the cob - it's not one of my favourite sides, but the Boys in this house LOVE corn!
Spaghetti Sauce
Butternut squash and coconut risotto - we are big pumpkin risotto eaters in this house so this will be a must try.
Asian chicken lettuce wraps - this one might be good when the weather gets warmer too :)
Beef Bourguignon
Honey Garlic Meatballs
Pumpkin soup
Beef and Sweet Potato Stew

Do you have any favourite recipes you think I should try?  Leave a comment for me if you do!

I'll probably add to this list as I go...I'm sure to find more I want to make! :)
Happy tummy makes a happy mummy ;P
